Lobb
Co-Founder, Definitive Film & FauxPop Media
Sometimes I’m out there, just living.
Randall Lobb is a former educator, speaker and writer/director/producer with years of experience telling stories in almost every imaginable platform. As the co-founder of Definitive Film, Lobb has become a key voice in pop culture documentaries, crafting deep-dive narratives that explore the creativity behind the world’s most iconic franchises. His work is a Venn diagram between fans, stakeholders and creators, allowing him unusual insight into beloved intellectual properties.
His directorial portfolio features a series of definitive histories, including the critically acclaimed Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (acquired by Paramount Pictures), Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and the Netflix original The Crystal Calls: Making The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. These projects, alongside works like A Gamer’s Journey: The Definitive History of Shenmue, the Disney+/Hulu production After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun, and Alien on Stage demonstrate his ability to engage global audiences across platforms like Netflix, Universal, and Disney.
Beyond his documentary success, Lobb is an experienced narrative screenwriter. He maintains a long-standing creative partnership with visionary Montreal-based filmmaker Patrick Boivin, collaborating on a number of comedy features currently in development, including the highly anticipated The Girl Who Sold the World. He is also a prolific memoirist. A Generation 1 Gen-Xer, Lobb explores the complexities of a feral, small-town Ontario childhood in his hilarious autobiography, Photogenic Memory: Growing Up Gen-X, and the cultural dislocation of moving his family to Europe for an early experiment in teaching online as a digital nomad in Auslanders: Our German Year (coming soon).
With experience ranging from consulting for high-profile IPs to speaking on the impact of technology in education and entertainment, Lobb pushes the boundaries of engagement and innovation. Whether interviewing pop culture legends on-camera or working with fellow filmmakers on original IP, Lobb’s work reflects his mindful approach to cultural archaeology, rooted in a deep respect for stories that shape our lives and the strategies used to make them meaningful and relevant.
